Today I was thinking of my ideal Business Partner and Ideal Customer. I made a list, reviewed it twice and then asked if I AM that kind of person. If you have never asked yourself those questions and are in network marketing, give it a try.

So I made my list, reviewed it and evaluated how I measure up…. Ah, a slight reality check. The answer was ‘YES’ in most areas, but not all. So what do I needed to do? Raise MY skill set, my mind set and ‘vibration’ to become the person I’d love to attract. Simple? Not always.

Getting clear on who you want to attract to your business is crucial, otherwise you may end up spending 80% of your time with those who are not actually dedicated to the business. Those people are the ones who will ask questions and waste your time but never be serious about growing the business… but boy do they love the attention they get by asking questions. If you’ve heard of the 80/20% rule, make sure you spend 80% of your time with those who bring you joy and are worthy of your time….AND on your list of ideals.

Personally, I want to work with people I truly like and enjoy being around. That most likely means meeting new people as I may not KNOW these people ‘yet’. In network marketing it is about building a relationship with people -hopefully from ‘now on’, and hopefully a relationship where you remain friends long after one of you decides to do some other business or work with another company…. because let’s face it, things change. I was with a company for over 10 years and there came a time that for my own personal life and goals, I had to move on….so I resigned and joined another company that resonated

much stronger with what I was looking for. Am I still friends with some of my old team mates, you bet!

Hopefully, for us (Dave and I) at this stage in our career, we seriously plan on being with our current company from NOW ON……Yes, it is our 100% desire to work with and be with our current company through the next 10+ years…..into and past retirement. Pie in the sky thinking? I don’t know. But one thing for sure is we don’t jump from company to company…we look for a HOME. (As I said, the last company we were with over 10 years.)

My 8 TOP qualities I’d like to attract to our business? (grab a paper and pen and write yours too.)

TOP 8 qualities in my my ideal ‘Brand Partner’ or Business associate.

Leader: someone who enjoys the role of leader and possesses, and uses Leadership skills.
Self-Starter: someone who ignites their own inner fire & desire each and every day.
Self-Motivated and Hungry for Success. It’s not just being self-motivated but someone who is HUNGRY for success and contribution…. someone willing to do what it takes…and needs to make it happen.
Integrity: Someone who does what they say they will do. Keeps their word.
Loves the industry of network marketing. Someone who enjoys helping and teaching others.
Positive outlook. Shines with (and sees) positivities.
Coachable and Trainable. The industry changes, has ebbs and flows, as do all company’s with their products and company growth. Being open to learning new ways and implementing new ideas is crucial.
MLM experience. This is certainly not a requirement, but why NOT want someone who has experience and can bring a team of others with them to the business?

We LOVE our Customers: Here are the ideal qualities of my ideal customer.

Follows instructions so they get the best results possible!
Goes on a monthly auto-ship
Can afford the products
Gives us referrals
Calls US, versus us having to call them for follow up.

Who are your ideal business associates and customers? I once had a list of over 25 qualities for business partners and 10 qualities for customers, but have honed it down to the ones above.

If I STOP attracting those people that I desire in my life and into my business, I stop and ask myself why. Often times it just takes me reviewing the list and becoming aware. In no time, those ‘kind of people’ then begin to show up again.

(It becomes obvious for me to evaluate when I begin to attract whiny people who complain about everything and always have excuses or blame others! I quickly take off time, evaluate and get clear before I get back in my business mode, especially into recruiting.) 🙂

“There has been a lot of discussion as to why folks decide to join network marketing. Most start, it seems, because of the amazing products. Then, in my case, I discovered unwavering integrity of the organization (Corporate leadership) my supportive up-line, and what great teacher/mentors they are. Even with all those great positives, what do most people want to know before signing up with any network marketing company?

Can “I” make money here? I found that I could, do and can make BIG MONEY. Within the first 4 months, I was making more monthly, than I had with my previous company in the previous 4 years.

You are probably asking yourself, “Why would she stay so long in a company where she was earning such a mediocre amount?” To be honest, I was having fun and I never thought I could do better than I was already!

I have been thinking of statistics of WOMEN in NETWORK MARKETING and recently came upon a blog from Mark Januszewski, aka Mark J. or the “Worlds Laziest Networker”, (http://worldslaziestnetworker.com) that I’d like to share parts of. Please feel free to share this blog as well as contact us. We’d love to hear your thoughts and insights. In quotations you’ll see Mark’s comments….with MY comments in blue. By the way, we met Mark J. through his incredible “Go 90 Grow” online course for network marketers several years ago.

IT’S A PROBLEM

“For some reason guys and MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) companies just don’t get it.

83% of the checks in MLM are cashed by women, according to the DSA.

83%!! (OK so this visual to the left says 82% of women in the US who make $100,000 or more did it through this industry!)

Do guys feel intimidated? Threatened?

You see it with companies all the time…the “Founders” are introduced and with rare exception, four or five guys roll out on stage. (Have you been with a company where this happens on stage? I certainly have!)

The audience goes nuts. I remember sitting there thinking, really, how stupid can we be as a group?

The world is the same way…since men “took over” in the dark ages….which I could argue we are still in.

Prior to that women were revered above men….and any networker who thinks -instead of copies- figures this out quickly.

See, for 1000s of years, it was “mother earth” …the giver of life…men were the protectors and women were the foundation of life.

And isn’t that what you’re trying to do with your business?

Who is better at growing things than the primary caretaker?

Until some do-gooder group with nothing better to do got laws passed, [don’t ask me why], MLM applications had ‘Occupation” on the application.

# 1 success group? Teachers

# 2 success group? Moms

Let’s face it, between teachers and Moms…. and that’s a lot of women!

MLM is a teaching business and Moms are in the business of teaching their kids life skills on a daily basis.

And they are better at it than men. Period. [don’t sweat this; if I learned how, so can you. HINT: watch the women teach]

How can your new teammates successfully do what needs to be done if they don’t know how?

Differences between Men and Women in this industry! Notice how we differ in communication.

GUYS: This is going to be huge! Go talk to people so you don’t miss out!

GALS: Here’s what we need to do to get you started. [notice the word that is inclusive, “we”]

GUYS: Motivational speeches – do all guys think they are Napoleon Hill or Tony Robbins? LMAO

GALS: Hands on support, simple “show and tell”….just like they do with their kids. I’ll stop here, it’s an endless list….let me get to the meat of the discussion.

DEPTH BUILDS DEPTH

Women have intuitively deeper feelings, more depth…..while guys deny their feelings….. and everybody knows it’s a burning desire that forges authentic commitment, not predictions about the future.

So I always, given the choice, recruited and promoted women into key roles…women crushed the role, guys did not.

And then….just when I thought I had done enough to carry this so simple truth to the MLM community, I was taught yet another priceless lesson…by a woman, of course.

I promise the “Secret” Hill writes about….the key that has opened a life second to none….is stated over and over and over….many ways in this dynamic woman.

Here’s a second promise; until you get that key, no tools, speeches, efforts or seminars will make a difference.

In her ‘own words’

Weight has always been a huge part of mine, and my families lives. I’ve watched many family members gain and lose hundreds of pounds throughout our lifetime. So in December of 03 after reaching and all time highest weight of 298 lbs, I decided to “do it”.

I had the original gastric bypass surgery. I lost over a 150 lbs. in a year-ish time. The Quick Fix was over right? Heck no, not even close…… I had numerous life threatening health complications as a direct result of the surgery. So you can imagine my surprise 15 years later when I had gained a good amount of the weight back. I was actually reconsidering having a revision done on my original bypass surgery, when my sister from Las Vegas told me about “some products” that her friend was using and having great weight loss success.

She sent me a month of a few different products and after losing 16 pounds in a few short weeks I was “tickled pink” and knew I needed to get more of “that”. As a best way to continue purchasing the products on a single mom’s budget, I signed up as a distributor with the company. I knew nothing of MLM, and the little I did know- was I was not interested in it . I had been a licensed cosmetologist for over 15 years at that point, and had no interest in doing anything other than that.

Well I’ve always been super social and ran in many different circles. So the business just kind of happened naturally for me. After helping most of my friends and family members I branched out and used Facebook and social media to help others across the world. Fast forward three months and my network marketing career was in full swing. I was able to walk away from a salon I was working full-time at and was on the road to becoming a network marketing professional. Not long after I was at the top of my game traveling from state-to-state regularly doing meetings for my team all over the United States, and loving every minute of it.

You see, I have always “loved people” and “making sure they felt included” and felt “part of”….. it has just been ingrained in me. I can remember family parties when I was in elementary school sitting at the window and waiting for the “next car” to pull up and running outside as fast as I could to welcome people and help them get in the house. I remember my mom saying “Char-Lee, at least let them get through the front door”.

I also had sales and sharing in my in my blood from early on. I can remember going through my neighborhood and picking up rocks from my neighbor’s front yards, then knocking at their front door and explaining to them why they should purchase these rocks from me as they were a perfect match to the rocks they already had. Little did I know they were ‘on to me’ and they just loved me coming by to visit.They always bought their rocks from me, and enjoyed my company.

After almost 5 years with my previous company the rug got pulled out from under “us”. With a simple email we were all informed that they had gone “retail”. Realizing what that meant, that me, nor my massive team would no longer be making any money. Talk about a punch to the gut. I had pretty much decided I was going to go back to a salon full-time and hang up my MLM hat. I just didn’t have it in me to “do it all again” and be fearful of “what if” again.

My mom, and all her wisdom, pointed out to me that she truly thought network marketing was my calling, and that perhaps I should try another company. And that she felt that I was made for network marketing and that it was a true passion of mine. She suggested I do my homework and find a new company. I knew this couldn’t be something taken lightly, as I was looking for a forever home in the MLM industry. I never wanted to be “that girl” who was with a new company every time people turned around. And so the process began.

I requested samples from over 10 companies. And I believe the 7th sample I tried was Tavala. I just knew that I knew this was it. I move pretty fast and within 2 days of joining I had 10 of my peeps involved with me. I had spoken to my upline -her upline- his upline and several people from the corporate team including Tavala’s CEO Allan Davis. I was convinced, this was it.

Everyone has gone above and beyond to help and to reassure us that we are in a safe place. They’ve also acknowledged our fears and help to put them to rest. After having some quick weight loss success (of over 15 pounds in approximately my first 23 days taking the Tavala Trim) I definitely had my fire back. And after getting paid the first Friday after joining the company, and every Friday thereafter, I knew that I had found the magic sauce.

How exciting again!! I am losing weight, feeling great, making money, and even ranked advancing to Palladium in record time (within less than a month of joining the company.) How cool is that, the company rewarded me with an iPad for an efforts, my team members are ranked advancing also and getting awarded as well. Nothing better then barely being able to fall asleep at night and then excitedly waking up the next morning ready to do it all again.

This crazy train is running full steam ahead and there’s no stopping Char-Lee’s Angel’s now. So so so grateful to have found a forever home for me and my tribe. As we are a package deal. Grateful to still be able to work from home though my now 18 and 20 year old kids probably wish I would have gone to work very, very full time very, very far away from home. LOL just kidding they both love me being home and available for them.

I am honored to be able to help my friends and family and their friends and family and their friends and family lose weight feel great again as well as make a strong solid income on top of it. We encourage others to be 100% authentic in sharing “their story” and yet we stopped telling OUR story on network marketing and why we LOVE this industry….so we thought we’d share it here!

When we first met, in 2005 we were both involved in network marketing but with different companies. It was fun to support each others entrepreneurial juices and we understood the dedication it takes to build and support a team.

The end of 2007 we moved from Arizona to Vermont to be close to family and to support our daughter who was having her first baby. People asked how we could sell everything (including Dave’s car) and move across country without a job…but the truth is they just didn’t understand we HAVE A JOB, it’s called being a a network marketing professional and we’ll be fine! One of the best things about this industry is you can live anywhere, as long as you have internet and a cell phone.

In 2008 both of the companies we were with were going through some major changes and when I say MAJOR- I mean Major! Relationship breakups with Dave’s company had the owners splitting and dividing…. changing everything that Dave had built. The company I was with changed from a Uni-level compensation plan to a Binary- as well as changed names of the company and many products. It felt like everything I had built was slipping away. Even the $500 monthly car bonus I once received was taken away, leaving me with a monthly car payment of $650. What is wrong with that picture?

We hung in there as long as we could until we were behind on all of our bills. Even though our monthly checks were less, our bills continued to grow. Winter in Vermont is not cheap!

Around that time we knew we needed to make a change….. although we didn’t give up on the industry, we decided we needed to get a job…. and for both of us, that was devastating as we had been our own boss for most of our lives. Still, you do what you need to do.

I took a job opening a franchised 24-hour health club- working LONG and crazy ‘gym hours’. Dave even considered moving to Asia to teach English to pilots, as he was a flight instructor, a pilot and used to buy and sell airplanes. Luckily for us, he never did move overseas. Instead he worked multiple jobs, piecing them together to bring in a somewhat sustainable income. At 3:30 in the morning he would get up to deliver newspapers- not a long term plan, especially in the winter months. We owned only one vehicle that eventually was repossessed when we finally realized paying $650 month for a car was ridiculous. For a while Dave borrowed my dads truck to deliver the newspapers and I took public transportation to get to my job.

In addition to delivering newspapers he would then go to the gym I managed and was the janitor …oh yeah, and and on the weekends was a manager at the Days Inn!

While at the gym I introduced him to a member who had a painting company and was looking for painters and he hired Dave that spring to paint houses and condos part-time. Imagine being in your 50’s painting in the hot sun on 28′ ladders. Still, you do what you have to do. Eventually Dave became a personal trainer, adding a 4th job to his resume’….but at least this job allowed us to work together and see one another. Prior to that our hours were complete opposite one another. Still…..you do what you have to do!

All along we couldn’t believe that this is what our life had come to! Luckily we believed this was only temporary and kept our options open that would somehow allow us to get back into the industry that we both loved and had experienced success in.

Flash forward 3 years and with both excitement and some nervousness, we got reengaged in network marketing. The company I had been with since 2006 had a new division, things had changed for the better and the CEO spoke to us about us re-engaging. One thing that caught our attention is a colleague with that company was now earning MORE in one week than her monthly checks had been. THAT caught our attention.

Even though we didn’t have the extra money to buy the necessary larger pack to be ‘grandfathered in’ at a higher pay level we made the decision to buy it and to not pay our Comcast Internet service and our Verizon cell phone service. If we were going to get back into network marketing, we needed every advantage and to make money fast!

We were already two months behind on all our bills and those services were our life line to other possibilities… but we did it anyway! Now we needed (not just wanted) to make this work! Luckily when you are entrepreneurial and have had success before, with the right opportunity and excitement, we knew we could do it again. It was our ticket to freedom!

Our first month back in network marketing we earned $2,851. YES! Within 3 months we were earning $5K a month and within 6 months we were earning $10K a month and growing!

When people tell us we don’t understand when money is tight we actually DO understand….first hand! But that’s not the reason you can’t do it, it’s the reason you HAVE to.

We love what network marketing has done for us and can offer the average person. The flexibility it offers us offers so many options in life. We can live where we want, we never miss a family celebration or birth of a grandchild. We travel often to warm and exotic destinations and we work with a fabulous team of people who are like us, looking to create a ‘better tomorrow’ and to impact people’s lives in a positive way. We’re able to contribute in ways we haven’t been able to for many years.

We’re proud to say we are top leaders with our network marketing company and adore this industry and all the ‘good’ that it represents. We made the decision to be the up line sponsors that we never had and true to our word, we believe we are. We have created an environment and culture on our team that is unstoppable and know someday we’ll be one of the Tavala Elite Circle.

The picture to the left was taken during a company cruise that we qualified for once we first joined. We celebrated with a good size team but know that this year our team will be massive and new and stronger relationships will be created. This subject is spoken around all the time, but rarely spoken about. I think the problem is people think that “Up line” is a Noun and it is a title they have achieved.

What if the word “Up line” is a verb, an action word that asks “What can I do for my down line today, right now to assist them in being successful?”

Here’s a discussion I had with our down lines today. Why? Because I want them to know the skills they need to be successful!

As I sit here in my office looking out the window I see snow and a glimpse of what we call ‘stick season’ here in Vermont. It’s the season where there are no leaves on the trees and it looks like STICKS are literally “sticking out” from the ground and from under the snowbanks. Luckily spring will be here soon and all of this will change.

This visual of flip flops and coconuts makes me feel happy and reminds me how grateful I am that we have the lifestyle and freedom to leave the cold weather behind when we desire and travel to warmer climates -when we choose. Our network marketing business continues to thrive, and actually in reality, it usually grows as we are out LIVING LIFE by DESIGN making new friends and expanding our team during our travels.

We recently returned from Hawaii where we met some team members that we had only spoken to by phone or on a zoom call. Network marketing IS a people business.

Developing true friendships based on similar goals is a great way to align with people that have similar interests. On our team, for example, our core values are: Integrity, Leadership, Rank Advancement and Living debt-free. If people are not in alignment with those qualities, most likely they are not going to be attracted to our team or if they show up, they won’t stay long. We pride ourselves on the quality and heart of our team.

If you are stuck in a job or profession that no longer serves you or that you don’t like- explore network marketing as an option. It’s the only place we know as entrepreneurs where the average person … regardless of age, gender, background or nationality… can have the same opportunity to create wealth as the next person.

It’s about desire. We are looking for positive minded self-starters who would love to build a local (meaning USA) or international business that includes travel and team training. If this interests you, let’s chat.
